How Cuper Uses Personality to Improve Matching
A look inside our multi-dimensional compatibility model.
We don't believe a single algorithm can capture the complexity of human connection. But we do believe that multiple dimensions of personality, stacked together, create a meaningfully better signal than photos alone.
Why single-dimension matching fails
MBTI alone can't predict relationship success. Zodiac alone can't. Even attachment theory alone isn't sufficient. But combined - with thoughtful weights and appropriate uncertainty - they start to paint a picture that's genuinely useful.
Cuper's compatibility dimensions
1. Attachment Style (30% weight)
The highest-weighted signal because attachment research has the strongest empirical basis for relationship outcomes. Secure-secure pairings have the highest success rates; we surface this clearly.
2. MBTI (25% weight)
We analyze cognitive function stack compatibility, not just letter matches. Two people with completely different letters can have complementary function stacks that create strong chemistry.
3. Enneagram (20% weight)
Core motivations and fears often determine the texture of long-term relationship dynamics. Enneagram compatibility surfaces these patterns early.
4. Moon Sign (15% weight)
Weighted higher than sun sign because emotional compatibility is more directly relationship-relevant.
5. Sun Sign (10% weight)
Used as a broad energy and temperament signal. We weight it lower because the evidence base is more reflective than empirical.
What we don't do
We don't give you a final number and call it "your compatibility." We give you a label that reflects a range - "Strong Match" or "Worth Exploring" - alongside qualitative context about communication strengths, potential friction points, and conversation starters.
Compatibility is a conversation starter, not a conclusion. And that's exactly how we design it.
